The Pop-Up support scams.
These scams pop-up a message on your browser alerting you to some kind of problem on your PC and then tell you to call a 1-8xx number for immediate support. Many of these claim to be Microsoft, or a anti-virus company and when you call they want to remote into your computer to "fix" things.
THESE ARE SCAMS! Microsoft does not offer this kind of support for windows, nor do Anti-Virus companies.
DO NOT ALLOW A THIRD PARTY COMPANY TO REMOTE INTO YOUR PC UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY KNOW, TRUST AND CAN VERIFY WHO THEY ARE!
If you get a pop-up similar to the ones above.
Please close your browser window by right clicking on the browser button in your start bar and choosing close windows.
This will close all the windows that are associated with your browser session and will safely close the offending window. This method insures that any link that may hide a virus payload will not be activated.
If you close the windows in the manner you should be find to reopen your browser and continue to surf. However, I would suggest that you DO NOT go back to the page that had the pop-up attached to it.
